Our ‘Training And Activities’ Timetable

 Names are now being taken for  the new sessions in the New Year.

We have lots of opportunities for carers to access training to support carers in their caring role or to take a few hours away from caring, learn something new and meet other carers as well. There is a wide range of one of sessions and short courses available for carers registered with the Carers Centre.

Thursday January 10th Dementia Programme Session One
An introduction to dementia and some of the key features for carers who do not already have a good level of knowledge and awareness of these issues. Topics covered include the main types of dementia, explore difficulties experienced by people with dementia and some of the challenges faced by carers.

Friday 11th, 18th, 25th January, 1st and 8th FebruaryFlowers, Plants and Inks.
Join Elaine at this fabulous five-week course aimed at all abilities. Try out new ideas, with inks, layering and mixed media to create stunning floral and nature pieces, with support from an art tutor to guide you all the way. Contact Elaine Fox on 07817407671 to book your place.

Want to learn new skills and gain confidence to use the internet safely? Need help with your new phone or tablet? Learn how to pay your council tax or access G.P appointments. Come along, learn the different techniques of clay pot, paint what you make and take it home with you.

Thursday January 17th and 24th Hand Embroidery Course One.
An opportunity for carers to learn how to stitch some traditional hand embroidery stitches including running chain, stem, and back and split stitch.

Tuesday January 29th 10 Steps to Reducing Stress.
Although the pressures of life can sometimes feel overwhelming there are some simple strategies that you can put in place to better manage your stress. During this session, we will look at a range of ideas that you can implement straight away, including learning how to achieve deep relaxation quickly and easily.

Wednesday February 6th and 13thMini Art Course Mixed Media Birds.
Use techniques from collage, watercolour, acrylic, pens, pastel and pencils to achieve stunning colourful bird scenes.

Wednesday February 6th, 13th, March 13th, 20th April 3rdImprover Crochet Course Two.
This course is for all carers who would like to learn and improve their skills of crocheting. Carers will need to provide their own crochet hooks and wool.

Thursday February 28th, March 7th, 14th Hand Embroidery Course Two
Produce a heart sampler Learn how to stitch traditional and embroidery stitches, complete a heart shaped sampler which will include 3 basic outline stitches, 4 decorative stitches and how to correctly use embroidery thread and hoop. A perfect way to practice different kinds of stitches and make something pretty at the same time.

Tuesday March 12thFacing Life’s Challenges- Using Problem Solving Skills.
Many carers face several complex and difficult challenges. During this session, you will discover how to “stop, slow down, think and act” when faced with a problem, the skills to be a planful problem solver, so that you can face life’s challenges head-on, rather than trying to avoid them.

Wednesday 13th March Falls Prevention
This session provides carers with practical tips to ensure both the carer and the person that they care for stay safe in their own home.

Tuesday 19th March Afternoon with Fran- Silk Painting
Applying paints or dyes directly onto silk fabric using an exciting array of watercolour techniques this session is a must. Come along, relax and try something new.

Tuesday 26th March Dementia Programme Session Two.
The aim of this session is to enable carers to respond effectively to some of the challenges they may face when supporting a person with dementia including techniques and tips, challenging behaviour, distraction and de-escalation techniques.
