Carers Training Programme for April- June 2019

We have lots of opportunities for carers to access training to support carers in their caring role or to take a few hours away from caring, learn something new and meet other carers as well. There is a wide range of one of sessions and short courses available for carers registered with the Carers Centre.
New sessions and courses this quarter include Wills Information, Care Home Fees- Myths and Truths and Belief Five Week Programme.

|Tuesday 12th March||NEW Digital Workshops. Want to learn new skills and gain confidence to use the internet safely? Need help with your new phone or tablet? Learn how to pay your council tax or access G.P appointments. Get on line with our Digital Workshops. One to one or group sessions available. |Tuesday March 12th||Facing Life’s Challenges- Using Problem Solving Skills. Many carers face several complex and difficult challenges. During this session, you will discover how to “stop, slow down, think and act” when faced with a problem, the skills to be a planful problem solver, so that you can face life’s challenges head-on, rather than trying to avoid them.||10.00am-1.00pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Tuesday 19th March||Afternoon with Fran- Silk Painting Applying paints or dyes directly onto silk fabric using an exciting array of watercolour techniques this session is a must. Come along, relax and try something new.||1.00pm-3.30pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Friday March 22nd||NEW Carers Welcome Sessions The Welcome sessions are for carers that want to find out a bit more about the services we offer and what support is available||1.00pm-2.30pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Tuesday 26th March||Dementia Programme Session Two. The aim of this session is to enable carers to respond effectively to some of the challenges they may face when supporting a person with dementia including techniques and tips, challenging behaviour, distraction and de-escalation techniques.||10.00am-1.00pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Thursday April 4th,11th,18th||Hand Embroidery 3 Week Course Come along and learn a range of stitches that provide a textured finish, including whipped and woven stitches, e.g. French knots, bullion, spiders’ web and seeding. An embroidery sampler is created as a demonstration or test of skill in needlework. The stitches can be used to create flowers and garden plants. Belief Programme 5 Week Course An interactive course that includes overcoming limiting personal beliefs, positive self-talk, habits and attitudes, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation. |Tuesday May 7th,14th,21st,28th, June 4th||Belief Programme 5 Week Course. An interactive course that includes overcoming limiting personal beliefs, positive self-talk, habits and attitudes, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation. |Wednesday 24th April||Clay Pot Making Come along, learn the different techniques of clay pot, paint what you make and take it home with you.||1.00pm-3.30pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Tuesday 7th May||Building Resilience Through Mindfulness Developing the ability to bounce back from difficult situations is vital if we also have caring responsibility. Mindfulness can help us to build our resilience by focusing our attention on the world around us, rather than getting caught up in our own negative thoughts and feelings. During this session, you will practice some simple mindfulness techniques and get in touch with the values that matter to you.||10.00am-1.00pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|

|Thursday 9th May||Wills – information Session A Will is important – particularly for the older person and people with a disability. Come along and find out the dos and don’ts of will making. Time for questions as well.||10.00am-11.30am||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|

|Tuesday 21st May||The Dementia Journey – providing effective care and support This session is to enable carers to be able to provide effective care and support to the person with dementia, with the focus being on “living with dementia” rather than “suffering from dementia”.||10.00am-1.00pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Friday 7th June||British Red Cross- First Aid for Carers Would you know what to do in an emergency? Come along and gain practical tips to help you deal with and emergency should it arise.||10.00am-12.00pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
|Thursday 13th June||Care Home Fees Myths and Truths Come along to this Myths busting session and find out correct information regarding Care Home Fees.||1.00pm-2.30pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|

|Relaxation and Meditation Six Week Course Sessions will be focused around learning basic yoga poses helping to ease tension in the body whilst building strength and mobility in the muscles, joints and an element of meditation. Every class will finish with a guided relaxation, allowing you to totally switch off and take some much-needed rest.||11.30am-12.30pm||Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre|
