Carers Training Programme for July- Sept 2019

We have lots of opportunities for carers to access training to support carers in their caring role or to take a few hours away from caring, learn something new and meet other carers as well. There is a wide range of one of sessions and short courses available for carers registered with the Carers Centre.

New sessions and courses this quarter include Create A New You 3 week art course and Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course.

Wednesday 10th, 17th and 24th JulyCreating a new you – This short 3 week course is the chance to focus on yourself for a change and think about how you see yourself. This programme will involve creating your own portrait using pencil, charcoal, acrylic paint and collage. Buddy support available for the cared for during the course. Thursday 18th July10 Steps to Reducing Stress Although the pressures of life can sometimes feel overwhelming there are some simple strategies that you can put in place to better manage your stress. During this session you will be looking at a range of ideas that can be carried out straight away, including how to achieve deep relaxation quickly and easily. 10.00am-1.00pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Wednesday 24th JulyAfternoon with Fran – Creative Canvas. This session will involve using water-based paints, creating an instant image for your wall. 1.00pm-3.30pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Thursday 25th JulyPeople Moving People – Preventing falls, mobile solutions and promoting wellbeing. This session provides carers with practical tips to ensure both the carer and the person that they care for to stay safe in their own home. 10.30am-12.30pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Wednesday 14th and 21st August & 11th and 18th SeptemberCrochet for Pleasure – Whether you can crochet or not these sessions are for you to come along, share skills or if you want to learn how to crochet then these sessions are for you. The course is free however carers will need to bring along their own crochet hooks and wool. 10:30am-12:30pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Thursday 15th AugustRelaxation and Self-Healing. This 2 hour session allows you to take time away from your caring role and de-stress in a calming environment and includes a meditation and an empowerment called Rei-Ju. 1.00pm-3.00pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Monday 5th August – Thurs 26th SeptemberKick Off Your Shoes and Dance…..is back! For 8 weeks only, this is your opportunity to enjoy dancing lessons with Hurst Dance Studios. Tap Dancing – Mondays 11am Beginners Latin Line – Tuesdays 9.45am New Beginners Ballroom – Ladies only Thursdays 11:30am You can attend as many classes as you like within this period. Thursday 22nd AugustDementia Programme Session 1 – An introduction to dementia and some of the key features for carers who do not already have a good level of knowledge and awareness of these issues. It will cover the main types of dementia and explore difficulties experienced by people with dementia and some of the challenges faced by carers. Thursday 29th AugustFacing Life’s Challenges Using Problem Solving Skills – Many carers face a number of complex and difficult challenges. During this session you will discover how to “stop, slow down, think and act” when faced with a problem, learn the skills to be a planful problem solver, so that you can face life’s challenges head-on, rather than trying to avoid them. 10.00am-1.00pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Tuesday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th September & 1st and 8th October Mindfulness 6 week course – Come along and learn new techniques, tools, mindfulness and meditation practices that empower and enable you to live in the present to improve your own health and wellbeing. The last session will be on colour therapy. Funded thanks to Tesco’s Bag for Life. 12.45pm-2.45pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Wednesday 4th SeptemberCarers Welcome Session – For carers that want to find out a bit more about the services that we offer, what support is available or just to touch base with the Carers Centre to see what’s new. 10.30am-12.00pmWigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Monday 23rd and 30th SeptemberEmergency Paediatric First Aid Course – course covering guidelines on the resuscitation of children and how to provide basic first aid and how to cope in emergency situations. Carers will need to be available to do both dates.9.45am-12.45pmHope Primary School Marus Bridge (The Grange Building)
