Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Is your GP practice aware you are a Carer?
What does GP liaison worker do?
She works alongside the 62 GP practices in Wigan Borough to raise awareness of Unpaid Carers and the valuable work they do.
All 62 practices have been asked to work to the Greater Manchester Primary Care Standards; standard #5 is around ‘The Health and Wellbeing of Carers’.
We have been able to provide awareness sessions to GP frontline staff, so they are able to recognise Carers and support them by providing useful information.
The GP liaison worker is also responsible for ensuring the Carer’s noticeboards in the practices are showing up-to-date information.
There should also be information on each practice television screen, giving information on ‘who is a Carer’ and what you can do.
How does registering as a Carer benefit you?
By letting us inform your GP practice that you care for someone, it will be highlighted on your records so the practice could take this into account, when you are unable to make pre-booked appointments, you could also be entitled to an annual health check and a free annual flu vaccination.
Did you know that you could be registered as a Carer at your GP Practice?
GP practice staff are able to refer carers directly to us, with their permission, alternatively they can give the carer a leaflet so they can refer themselves.
