Training Information for Carers
Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre
Training Opportunities for Carers
Carers can often find themselves thrown into a role with little or no training in what can sometimes be a very difficult and stressful time.
Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre recognise this and understand the demands of being a carer and offer training that help carers to build skills, gain practical tips and feel more supported and confident within their caring role.
Accessing training can also lead to improved health and wellbeing for carers helping carers to feel less stressed and more prepared to care.
A lot of the sessions that the Carers Centre offers also focuses on improving carer’s physical and psychological well-being, supporting carers to enjoy a few hours’ away, meet new friends who understand and offer peer support to each other.
The Carers Centre’s training programme changes every quarter. It has regular sessions each quarter but also offers new training opportunities, often requested by carers themselves or to meet a gap in training identified by the referrals we receive and the conversations we have with carers.
If you are a carer and would like to learn something that we do not currently offer, why not give the Carers Centre a ring and we will try to find something locally. We will also add your name to the expression of interest list and if we have enough interest from other carers we will look at the possibility of providing a training session.
Take a look at this quarter’s training calendar.
Don’t have the time to come along to the Carers Centre? Have you thought of completing an Adult distance learning course, either non accredited or Level 2 accredited which are fully funded* We can refer carers to courses provided by Wigan and Leigh College.
This is a great way for carers to gain qualifications and start to build a portfolio at a time that fits around their caring role.
